November 13, 2020 @ 12:00AM — November 16, 2020 @ 12:00AM Eastern Time (US & Canada)

A Most Beautiful Thing, based on the memoir by Arshay Cooper, tells the story of the first African American high school rowing team in the United States, organized on the South side of Chicago in the 1990s. Narrated by the Academy Award and Grammy-winning artist Common, executive-produced by NBA Stars Grant Hill and Dwyane Wade along with Grammy-award winning producer 9th Wonder, and directed by award-winning filmmaker and Olympic rower Mary Mazzio, A Most Beautiful Thing is the story of opportunity and the transformative power of sport in under-resourced communities.

Your purchased ticket gives you access to the private screening of the movie, A Most Beautiful Thing, and access to a panel discussion with author and subject of the documentary, Arshay Cooper, and a few special Baltimore guests. The private screening is available by Vimeo link for viewing any time at your convenience between Friday, November 13th, and Sunday, November 15th. The panel discussion will be held from 6:30-8:00 PM on Sunday, November 15th.

The private screening is hosted by Baltimore Community Rowing (BCR) and generously sponsored by PNC Bank. Funds raised through ticket sales and donations will support BCR and its mission to expand community rowing programs in Baltimore.

BCR has a 10-year history of successfully developing Baltimore City Public School Students into scholar athletes through its outreach program, Reach High Baltimore, and is among a handful of programs in the country providing competitive rowing opportunities to middle and high school athletes of color. Building on that experience, BCR is expanding its community outreach and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across its adult programs, including the introduction of a scholarship fund for adult athletes in 2021. Funds raised from this event will support those efforts.

To spread the word about BCR and its programs, we will be distributing tickets to community members in the neighborhoods surrounding our boathouse in Baltimore City. Please consider purchasing a community ticket for the private screening. Every community ticket purchased will be given directly to a community member or a scholarship recipient at our boathouse.

Thank you for supporting community rowing in Baltimore! We look forward to sharing with you this amazing documentary and an important conversation about the impact of sport in under-resourced communities.
